Kemah Texas Real Estate and Community Information

78777793.jpgLocated on the Galveston Bay, Kemah has been ranked as the top tourist destination in the Greater Houston Area. With a population of just under 3,400, the town has a unique small-town vibe. This city allows you to live in a close-knit community while taking advantage of everything the major cities nearby have to offer.

In 1824, Michael Gouldrich, a stockraiser and farmer, was granted a 177-acre parcel of land. After the mysterious disappearance of Gouldrich, the land was acquired by William Vince. The land changed hands several more times until it was bought by Henry Kipp. The town Kipp founded was destroyed by the 1900 Galviston hurricane. The city was officially established in 1907 and has been growing since.

The town was again struck by a hurricane in 2008. When Hurricane Ike rolled through, homes and businesses were damaged. Rebuilding took time, and today reminders remain of the serious effects of the storm.

Parks and Recreation

Clear Lake Park is, without a doubt, the most popular park in the area. Located in nearby Seabrook, the park is frequently visited by families looking for a great way to spend an afternoon. Paved walking trails are perfect for bikes, hikes and dog walking.

Miramar Park is a smaller park that covers five acres. Also located in Seabrook, the park has playground equipment, barbecue facilities and a pavilion. The city’s community center is available for rent, seating up to 200 people.

Attractions and Activities

Ask any owner of one of the city’s beautiful homes and they will tell you that the Kemah Boardwalk is the most popular attraction in the area. The amusement park has rides for the family, shopping opportunities and amazing restaurants. The boardwalk is open year round to the delight of residents and tourists alike.

There is always something happening in the Bay area. From Breakfast on the Bayou to Rock the Dock on the boardwalk, you will never struggle to find an event to attend when you own one of the fantastic properties in this city. Because of its small size, not all events are held in the city proper, but are within a few miles’ drive of any residential property.
